When concentration levels of the biomarkers for some subjects fall below the limit, the measures for those subjects are censored. Censored data due to detection limits are very common in public health and medical research. If censored data from a single exposure group follow a normal distribution or follow a normal distribution after some transformations, Tobit regression models can be applied. Given a Tobit regression model and a detection limit, the proportion of censored data can be determined. However, in practice, it is common that the data can exhibit excessive censored observations beyond what would be expected under a Tobit regression model. One common cause is heterogeneity of the study population, that is, there exists a subpopulation who lack such biomarkers and their values are always under the detection limit, and hence are censored. In this article, we develop a new test for testing such latent class under a Tobit regression model by directly comparing the amount of observed censored data with what would be expected under the Tobit regression model. A closed form of the test statistic as well as its asymptotic properties are derived based on estimating equations. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the performance of the new test and compare the new one with the existing ones including the Wald test, likelihood ratio test, and score test. The colloid is considered to be hydrophobic, sedimenting under gravity or a centrifugal force (generalized gravity). The deformation of the charge cloud around the colloid induces an electric field, which generates electrical dipole force on the colloid. The sedimentation velocity is governed by the balance of an electric force, hydrodynamic drag, and gravitational force. Governing equations based on the first principle of electrokinetics is solved numerically through a control volume approach. The dependence of the sedimentation velocity on the electrical properties and slip length of the colloid is investigated. The sedimentation velocity of the charged colloid is slower than the corresponding uncharged particle and this deviation magnifies as the charge density as well as particle slip length is increased. An enhanced g-factor creates a size dependency of the charged colloids. The induced sedimentation field is obtained to analyze the electrokinetics. Surface hydrophobicity enhances the sedimentation velocity, which in turn manifests the induced sedimentation field. We used a method adapted from the recommendations of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) to validate a French questionnaire for patients with MM treated with IMIDs.
The face validity was evaluated in 15 patients and the construct validity in 56 patients. For discriminant validity, two groups were constituted by gender and depending on whether they had a previous IMID treatment. This is a retrospective study using our prospective database for quality assurance in our hospital. Inclusion criteria for our study was a completed lobectomy or sleeve lobectomy for primary treatment of NSCLC.
In 506 patients, the tumor was treated by means of standard lobectomy. In 252 patients with central tumor localization, sleeve lobectomy was performed. Postoperative complications occurred in n148 (29.24%) patients of the lobectomy group and in n?=?76 (30.15%) of the sleeve group. The mortality rate difference between the two groups was statistically significant and favored the lobectomy group (0.78% vs. 4.76%, p?=?.007). In our study, we dissected the molecular alterations and downstream effectors of salinity and drought stress on cell cycle regulation and chromatin remodeling. Effects of salinity and drought stress were determined on maize seedlings using 200?mM NaCl (induced salinity stress), and 250?mM mannitol (induced drought stress) treatments, then cell cycle progression and chromatin remodeling dynamics were investigated. Seedlings displayed severe growth defects, including inhibition of root growth. Interestingly, stress treatments induced cell cycle arrest in S-phase with extensive depletion of cyclins B1 and A1. Further investigation of gene expression profiles of cell cycle regulators showed the downregulation of the CDKA, CDKB, CYCA, and CYCB. These results reveal the direct link between salinity and drought stress and cell cycle deregulation leading to a low cell proliferation rate.
